Language, Literature and the identity of a People

26th of May | 11.00H | Jonh dos Passos

Carlos Quiroga is a professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela. He founded and directed several magazines, including the "O Mono da Tinta".

He has a doctorate with distinction and honours, and besides his academic activity, he has published various texts and photographs in magazines and newspapers in Portugal, Galicia, Brazil, Spain and Germany. He has published several books and has a regular presence in many literary festivals, especially in Portugal and Spain. He is a member of the Galician Language Association (AGAL).

Carlos Quiroga will participate in several moments during the festival, particularly during the opening conference of Aqui Acolá, where he will address the issue of identity of a people.

He questions whether Galician and Portuguese are the same language, by opening up a safe space for a discussion on the role and function of languages and on multilingualism. He examines the history of human language while exploring ideas about the relationships between the societies of Galicia and Portugal, their identities, their languages and their literature.
