8 Mãos à Obra – Escultura da Terra

26th to 29th of May | Jardim Loja do Municipe | Sculpture | Indoor

António Andrade works mainly with basalt, the volcanic stone from Madeira Island. The materials are collected in nature by the artist himself. His sculptures are inspired by daily tasks, the rural environment, and the memories that have marked his life’s path.

Born in the parish of Canhas, a municipality of Ponta do Sol, António Andrade says that since childhood he has always felt the need to express his feelings and ideas by sculpting stone and wood, while creating several objects from his imagination, traditions and his childhood experiences

You can find traditional elements from Madeira in his work: spinning tops, miniature windmills, globes, pulleys, vases, fountains and even classic Madeiran style shoes. All crafted in basalt, with particular wooden details. The sculptor is self-taught and makes his passion for sculpting in stone a creative and at the same time therapeutic hobby.

NU_MERO

26th to 29th of May | Antiga Esquadra | Sculpture | Indoor

While not proposing itself as an editorial project and not seeking to be exhausted in a collective exhibition the NU_MERO identity seeks a mutable object to oscillate alternately between two realities: expository and venerable.

In 2017 the project began with the production of the object NU MERO ZERO, with a residence in the space PIPINOIR - creative expression, inaugurating the Insubmissive Week, which consisted of an event with the presence of several artists in the areas of poetry, performance, music, visual arts and editorial.

In 2018 the continuity of the project materialized with the object NU MERO ZINE, maintaining the residence at PIPINOIR and also integrated in the Week of the Unsubmissive.
